During this crisis different terms have been used to encourage people with preexisting health conditions to stay safe. Words like “self-isolation” put the burden on vulnerable people themselves. I prefer the idea of being “cocooned”. This is a more collective approach, where other people’s kindness and support contributes to the protection of the most vulnerable. Cocooning feels far less lonely and becomes a positive image of care. The picture shows me in my cocoon of safety where healing and recovery can occur. The colours surrounding me symbolise the love and care of others.
